Am I ready for a ferret?

Are you interested in becoming the owner of Ferret? Ferrets make wonderful pets because of their interesting personalities and playful behavior. They have no fear of humans and warm up the pets easier. There is no innate animosity between ferrets and dogs and cats, and all can usually share the household with little difficulty. Ferrets can live in a large cage, but still requires at least two hours outside of the cage for good luck.

Of course, there's more compatibility than owning a pet. What a stinky rumor? All animals, including humans have a unique scent. Ferrets have an undeserved reputation of being a "smelly". It is true that the musky odor, but it is not offensive nor overpowering. The musky scent coming from their skin glands and is present whether ferret is de-scent or not. While the occasional bath is recommended, often swimming will reduce odor, and will probably make it worse as the skin will get too dry and the skin glands to produce more oil in an effort to combat the dryness.

If you keep your ferret cage very clean, you'll have no problem with odor. If a ferret becomes stressed, they will emit fragrance. They can be cleaned with a damp cloth to remove the smell. Ferret smell does not stick around very long. Also, make sure to clean the ears. Unfortunately, Ferret ears produce earwax foul to make sure to clean the ears.

linen and stuffed toys can also absorb the smell so you have to clean these items often. Clean animal bedding at least once a week. You will need to use scent free detergent or a mild water based spray to prevent any allergies or skin issues. Remember, the less time is spent in a ferret cage, the less the smell.
