The Health and Fitness of a Nation - What Happened? 0
10.33Do you ever wonder why the whole culture of people, and that we Americans, got so fat, so out of shape, so tired, and so plagued by pain, lack of mobility and disease?
Do you ever wonder why, despite the sad shape of our bodies, so that we are willing to learn about health and adopt principles and life-giving diet and lifestyle habits?
What happened to us as a culture, and how did it happen?
Follow along, if you would, the chronology of the spiral of our eating and exercise habits.
It all started hundreds of years ago, but let's start in 1956 with the birth of the "four food groups ."
We have been sold to Big Mama myth of all - ". four food groups" They told us, and we believe that we must eat meat, dairy products, and refined breads, cereals and grains to be healthy .
We were also told to believe other lies and deceptions:
· We have, and most of us still do not, you must eat meat to get enough protein.
· We have, and most of us still, that meat protein is superior to plant protein.
· We have, and most of us still do, that we need to eat protein for strength and energy.
· We have, and most of us still do not to eat chicken and fish to lower cholesterol.
· We have, and most of us still do not, that milk "does a body good, " and we have to drink it for strong bones and teeth.
· We have, and most of us still do not, that osteoporosis is caused by not getting enough calcium.
We've got all the essential nutrients - protein, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, calcium, vitamins, phytochemicals, fiber - that we need for health and life of plant foods, with no fat, cholesterol, salt, toxins , animal protein and calories found in foods of animal origin and foods.
However, our cultural habits and traditions of today is built on the infamous "four food groups" and six myths above.
At the same time we bought it - hook, line and sinker - the original "four food groups," our culture is lured into the convenience convenience food
.convenience food came in the form of canned food - canned vegetables, fruits, soups, spaghetti sauces, spices and juice
.Convenience foods also came in the form of frozen foods, boxed breakfast cereals, instant oats, cream of wheat, and refined, white bread.
These convenience foods are our mothers' lives easier, and they fit the model of "four food groups, " so our moms gave us these foods without forethought or question.
But, although practical, convenience foods were often loaded with salt, sugar, chemicals and / or fat and lacking in nutrients. And they were often high in calories.
How well I remember Campbell soup and Velveeta cheese toasted sandwiches and lemonade from fresh, frozen concentrate. And what about those dried cereal in the morning and frozen or canned peas, corn, green beans or night?
I'm sure you can think of as convenience food your mom gave you.
Who is even thinking about that when food is changed by processing, canning, freezing and / or packaging, they are deprived of many of their nutrients?
Who even thought that if we fill in these convenience foods along with meat and dairy products, then you certainly do not eat enough of disease prevention, health-promoting foods, namely fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, whole grains , and legumes?
In addition to the infamous "four food groups" and convenience foods, fast foods exploded into our lives, beginning in 1960.
Fast food is quick, easy, cheap, and tasted good, just the right combination for mothers in the 70s and 80s, who were going through their own transformation becomes liberated and entering the workforce. Convenience foods and fast foods are a very busy life easier.
and then the children of these working moms grew up with fast and convenient food and got used to the taste, affordability and acceptability of these foods.
Let's face it. If children are given the choice between a meal consisting of hamburger, fries and pop or a meal consisting of salads, brown rice and steamed vegetables, a meal that they will choose? In fact, what would you choose a meal or at least want to choose?
Before the case of women who work from their homes, the children did not get a choice of what to eat. Children are told what they had to eat. But that parental awareness shifted when women spent so much time outside the home.
Kids, hooked on fast food, whine to their moms on the go for a quick burger or pizza, and working moms, too tired or too distracted or too stressed, would often be recognized. It was just plain easier for busy moms make their kids' desires, rather than prepare a nutritious meal and say, "No!"
Children were taught that they could eat whatever they wanted in the quantities they wanted. And they were not taught the difference between good and bad food choices food choices.
Result: spoiled palates, spoiled attitude of "I want what I want when I want it", which was conducted over into adulthood, and, ultimately, the taste buds are not the only things spoiled, spoiled the whole body.
To make things go from bad to worse, the phenomenon of television invaded our living rooms. Children and adults alike became more sedentary. Unfortunately, the more TV we looked fatter and less fit we get.
In addition, advertising on television has had a tremendous impact on our eating habits and our attitudes about food. Of course, computers and game boys we chain our chairs and even more than just TV.
In addition, remember that physical education was emphasized in 1960? Remember John F. Kennedy 's President Award for physical fitness? Well, P.E. has lost its favor with the baby boomers and became less and less emphasized in schools. In fact, since 1988, Illinois is the only state to require daily PE left
Bottom line: as Americans ate up and up and moved into their bodies less and less, we as a nation got fatter and fatter and sicker and sicker
.Then the Americans become obsessed with losing all the excess weight gained by bad eating habits and lack of activity and exercise.
, however, we did not want to lose weight by eating properly and exercising more - no, it's too much effort and too much time. We're spoiled Americans like quick weight loss. So what many of us latch on to? Any diet that came along to loudly touted quick fixes and easy solutions.
Does the diet work? Just look around and the truth will be revealed.
How many millions of dollars are spent each year on the latest miracle diet, and how many of us still carry around way too much weight? It does not take a genius to see that they simply weight loss programs, diet is called, simply do not work.
Just look at the popular, and one I have to completely shutter, Atkins' diet. You know the one - one that is overloaded with high-fat, high cholesterol, and high animal protein. Dr. Atkins is being marketed and boasted about the diet for decades, and made millions of dollars from millions of unsuspecting dieters.
However, it is not you ever take a close look at Dr. Atkins before his untimely death? He could not hide the fact that the assailant has always seemed a lot of pounds. Even after decades of following their advice, he still could not keep the pounds off. He is just another proof that little fad weight loss diets simply do not work.
and look at the troubles that we as a nation, are in now.
Americans are sicker, fatto, and more of form than ever. And it's getting worse, not better. If you do not believe that all of the above, just walk into one of our high school and look at our weight, under-fit children.
We are born from the loins of our culture. For over fifty years and have built up food and exercise habits to collectively accepted standard for our culture. And today we have the products and culture.
standard for our culture is, and for the most part is still filling our stomach meat, dairy products, boxed cereals, canned soups, canned fruits and vegetables, sugar, Crisco, and Betty Crocker. In addition to McDonald's and fast food across the country, our health slid from bad to worse. lack of exercise only accelerated the downward spiral.
It'sis hard to break old habits and conditioning in order to turn your body and your life around . decisions that have to do now to get the best comfort, energy and activity are not choices we have been taught and conditioned to like children.
It can be tough to consciously eat better, but it is much harder to resist getting a breast cut off, cut out the prostate, or a foot cut off because of diabetes. It is much harder to get her breasts buzz-sawed open for heart surgery, to set fire to radiation, or to get sick from chemotherapy, than it is to fill your stomach with fresh, whole fruits and vegetables.
What will it be? Get hit with a stroke that paralyzes you on one side of your body or eating fruits and vegetables and walking on their own for the rest of your life?
It seems simple, very clear choice for me. Not to you?
only because the health of our nation's plummeting down, does not mean that your health is doomed to the same dreaded course.
your health and fitness are your responsibility, and that it is time to take that first step on your own time you're the best.
As evidence of global warming --- we girthing up at an alarming rate.
"People who are 100 pounds or more overweight are the fastest growing group of overweight people, researchers reported ..." - Reuters
.With continued traveling through, we can lose sight of our feet for good.
Experts predict that nearly 100-percent of the population of North America will be overweight in our lives. Currently 67 percent of the adult population is overweight --- prone to obesity.
This is not just a Western phenomenon: for the first time in history, fat people are equal underweight globally, just like people dropping dead from hunger, others are literally eating themselves to death. "Globesity" has reached epidemic super-large scale.
Is it time to place blame? Find a scapegoat?
mmm ... Curried scapegoat!
before we point our fingers at the stocky man gluttonous blame, perhaps we should go to the mirror to a little soul searching ...
is easy to blame restaurants, technology, internet, portion size, friends, family, vending machines ... Society seems to resist taking responsibility (perhaps a product distribution). Our hectic life did bring home the proverbial bacon challenging feat. Technology is getting kids to playgrounds ---- putting them in front of the computer, playing games with my friends lived. product is increasingly virtual world.
The main aspect of our expanding waistlines is a fact: We only do what we are told not to. We are consumers of all --- brilliant! Food is no exception. We gobbled up a slick marketing campaign and eat, eat, eat ... until we find ourselves in a depression and then we continue to eat for your comfort. Life has left us reeling and unable to slow down or we risk bringing Smiths.
We eat at our desks, in front of the TV, and we eat pizza while walking down the street. Rarely do we sit as a family over for a leisurely dinner --- sharing life as part of the menu.
Instead, we ate so much that the fashion industry has changed the medium to large and small ... Food and diet is a huge job, tipping the scale: over 23 billion dollars spent on dieting in the U.S. this year. While at the same time: about 22-thousand people die of hunger daily, global
.Food for thought:
Fat seems to be epidemic in the developed world. We are constantly be inundated with stories about global warming, war, etc. .. Could linked fears triggered something in our psyche by asking us to eat before development catches on? Are you preparing to hibernate?
Come along with me and let's step up to the buffet to blame for the moment (optional sneeze guard ):
We have indeed become the company guilty, guilty, blamety, guilty ... are not we? Why not accept responsibility for anything, when we dump all our shortcomings on others? Can not work, Chuck's uncle touched me when I was little ... so I'll sit on a street corner, mope around, and coatings. Can not work, one of my teachers was hard on me, I eat because I could not drop and do twenty. The world is tough, can not work, can not work, can not work, I can not ...
blame enhances the parade when it comes to getting big. producers of food, portion size, trans fats, computers, gen, thyroid condition, my friends, television, I gave up stroking stiff, however the mule ... I have to eat my respect is to take shots ... life is too hectic ... Food is everywhere ... argh ... want us to eat, eat.
All valid excuse ... That's right, apologies. With a few exceptions --- that's all they are. This does not discount the traumatic events that change the life course, and needs the attention of experts, however, they are too steeped in depression, with far-reaching psychological roots. Life, sorry cursing, fucking tough. Message for survival: it gets tougher, if your heart has to put in extra effort and keeping alive. lock here: this is wrong, we will redirect the flow. Another block: break sweat on the forehead, called Road Crew, another diversion. Another blockade: what is it ... you dropped dead. Who would you blame now? .. Oh yeah, I can not blame ... I'm dead.
Therefore, regardless of the reason / excuse, the only one who can take responsibility for the deaths of March food brigade you. We can continue to blame ... do research in an attempt to find those responsible. We try to get on reality TV show try to become the biggest "loser". Or we could just eat vegetables, some fruit, and smaller portions. Change our lifestyle, rather than others to change for our marketing campaign. Or die.
It's so simple, the choice is yours: Door number one: to die fat and depressed, bloated with comfort food. Door Number Two: moderation, variety, exercise and live a long life is vibrant, filled with love, sex, happiness, and look at ...
I'll save you a headache filtering its way through the gamut of research, the reasons the world is getting fat are as follows:
1 We are just doing (eating), what we said. We are the perfect little consumers. We are left, others charge for our lifestyle choices, and we take easy route clogged arteries.
2 We are depressed. (23 billion was spent on a diet). excellent category scavenger hunt may be: find someone over 20 who has not at some point, he said, "I need to lose a few pounds ."
3 And, that's about it ... argue if you must. Blame, if you will. X-large will soon become a little if you do.
"Just one more bit. It's incredibly thin ."
"---- off, I am full of ."
last taste of calorie-reduced desert: Earlier, when I mentioned the developing worlds of the psyche, I was kinda kidding. Eat to survive, it sounds ridiculous. Is it?
In contrast to the wild animals which survive on instinct, man is supposed to be full of reason and logic and gummy bears. Not all become obedient sheep? I know it is an abstract concept. Does the average person to make their decisions? You May be wondering what this has to do with the spread through food
?Bear with me.
We are fat, yet we keep eating. We kill others because we're saying it's for our survival, without really understanding the reasons why? .. or hatred of those we kill, or even understanding what they believe in. We hate because of skin color, sexual orientation, a second neighborhood we live in. buy what we said. We attend the same school. Watch the same television. Independent thought is praised until it falls in line with the powers that be. If you listen to messages sent our way: we should divide and conquer, to hate, that the profile of the enemy, and protect our rights from those who are "out to get us ".
I do not believe me?
The Chinese were given opium, and when they became drug addled and divided, their ports we have stolen from right underneath them. Now we are afraid that they are recovering and could be out for a little payback in the form of consumption ... Wait a sec, we have not done eating yet. How dare they want the same luxury?
of India ... similar story. Oh well ... They provide us with cheap products.
We brought slaves to America, stripped away their identity, their history, they are divided, deprived of hope, raped, robbed, killed, brought drugs ... And, you can fill in the gaps. However, we can not pretend that racism is "getting better". Please!
and still claim to be logical, and not as wild animals, the survival instinct?
By the way, I truly believe, consumption is a product of the Depression, and we introduced a series of spending time out of greed. Crazy? Maybe. It's just a thought.
As for those who have suffered through the aforementioned indiscretions rebound ... new place in the market needed to sell products. Where the corporate world to find this market? Right before their eyes. Us. Time for our medicine: prescription and illegal. Distract us: sports, celebrities, and the hectic schedule of life, leaving us all too exhausted to see what's really coming down the pike. Deposit of us in fear: global warming, avian flu, obesity statistics, hurricanes, English parents kill their children, news, reality ... so, what separates us (the product of the previous): divorce
.If you are confused, tired, living in fear and divided, we become the perfect consumer.
"at the end of a product that will help you to take an active step towards the preservation of ourselves and the people you care about from shooting incidents ...
Since 1999, over 328 incidents occurred, leaving 229 dead and 422 injured in school violence itself. This is on average about 1 week since the tragedy of Columbine. In nearly 97% of these documented incidents, MJ security solutions backpack could provide ballistic protection that could have saved his life.
This backpack can provide life saving defense for anyone: school children, teachers, journalists and tourists, to name a few. It is full size, ultra leightweight backpack full of features to be practical for everyone ."
- taken from MJ security solutions website
."Timmy what did you learn in school today? What is mathematics? Science ?"
"I've learned to be afraid. I found out others have to kill me. I and my friends have started another profile ... outcasts, nerds, people with different skin. I'm so glad that you gave me bulletproof backpack Daddy ."
racism, hatred and fear, to live on! Way to go world. Wait a second, it "needs" are not trying to cash in on fear and create more ... I'm so sorry, I misinterpreted your intentions. Children "must be" bulletproof backpacks. Something is wrong with you ... us. Blankers!
Well, guess what, I eat ... this world sucks. It is part of a lesson plan if you listen to those trying to keep their greasy little fingers in our pockets by creating a "need". If we buy into, guess what? Bye, bye logic, should give the instinct.
and thus, more depression, which leads to a smorgasbord of life, and maybe, just maybe, instinctive greed in an attempt to survive. As animals that are used every resource to extinction or until man changes his course leads them to premature release, the man could simply be following the same formula? Could a man instinctively eat everything on the table because of the fear and inevitably one day become starved because we have become so big, so overpopulated, so driven by greed and hatred, there is nothing left to eat. Except, of course, for those of us who are fueled by logic and reason, to come to the withdrawal of the fully stocked bunker.
I know when I've packed on a few extra pounds, it's not my fault, someone else has filed a fork and pried open her mouth, force feed me. After several days of binging I start the logical pursuit of the thin: "This will be the last hamburger, the last round, the desert, a whole chicken, a box of chocolates, a bag of chips, I'll eat tomorrow ... I'll hit the gym and work it all off --- change my lifestyle. "screw it, I'll just buy some heavier fork.
Anyway you slice it, this is a serious problem and our health depends on finding solutions. simple starting point: as the family sat down for a leisurely dinner, sharing life
.Or: Put down the fork and take some responsibility, but if you do not like your toes
. What do people usually think of when they hear the term exercise?
Bottom line is the workouts helps us stay healthy. It does not really matter what we call it, what is important is that we get our body moving and use our muscles. There are many ways of getting exercise on a daily basis that many people May not be taken into account:
• Cleaning house
• Walk the stairs instead of taking the elevator,
• Taking your dog for a nice long walk, instead of hoping it lasts around a courtyard,
• Check to see your co-worker 10 feet, instead of sending her instant messages,
• Now that you are inspired, I'm sure you can get yourself a bunch more.
Exercise plays an integral role in our health. If we allow that our body goes, it will not be there when we need it. Muscles that are not used will atrophy and become essentially useless if not used over time. Our metabolism will slow down, and we will not be so energetic and happy as we could be. Our immune system will begin to withdraw, and we become more susceptible to illness and disease. We just flat will not have the energy we used to.
These days many of us sit behind a computer, call the delivery of our food, get in the car, drive to work, sitting behind a desk, go to a restaurant for our meals (where we ended up sitting), go home to watch TV, then go to bed. Sound familiar to you? If this happens, change it. This is not a healthy life. When it is all there will be time set aside for exercise.
Ideally, everyone should take time to take care of your body. exercise program would be ideal. It should be something you do on a regular basis, something you enjoy, that will be different for everyone. And most importantly, it should become a habit and something that will do for the rest of our lives.
As with everything you need to have a balanced regime. balanced exercise routine includes flexibility, cardio and strength training. Strength or resistance training is pretty simple - usually involves some kind of weight lifting. Cardio is something that helps increase your heart rate for a period of time such as running, cycling, walking or dancing. Then, for flexibility, you could try yoga or stretching.
Now that you have to plan the next step is execution. Decide to do it, and then take action. It is as simple as that.
Not everyone is motivated, so you have to come up with reasons to want to exercise because it will generate for you. Where will you be five years from now, if exercised or not? Visualize yourself in 5 years and see what you look like, how much you weigh, what size clothing you will fit. Ask yourself these and other questions in connection with, and when you are thinking about not practicing today, go to your goals and let them motivate you to simply do it.
